The Fayetteville Fire Department will host a “christening” ceremony this week for a new fire engine and a rescue pumper truck before they are put into service.

Residents are invited to join Mayor Lioneld Jordan and city firefighters as they uncouple the hose, ring the bell and push the new trucks into the fire house. The event takes place at at 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 24 at Fire Station #1, located at 303 W. Center Street.

From the department:

These new pumpers are built on a Pierce Arrow XT cab with heavy-duty narrow chassis for a maneuverable fire truck in tight narrow city streets. They include a rugged all-metal interior for long term durability. The rescue pumper is custom-designed from Fayetteville’s specifications to carry all types of rescue equipment as well as structural firefighting hoses, nozzles, and ladders.
