The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) will presents its season opener featuring Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.

Performed under the baton of Music Director Paul Haas, the first concert of the 2017-18 season takes places at 7:30 p.m. in Baum Walker Hall.

“Join us as we kick off the season with a bold performance of Tchaikovsky’s romantic Fifth Symphony,” Haas said in a news release. “Featuring some of the most beautiful instrumental solo writing ever, this piece is an orchestral tour de force, played masterfully by Northwest Arkansas’ finest musicians. Chris Coletti, a technical superstar and household name through his work with the Canadian Brass Quintet, is guest soloist for Haydn’s ever-popular Concerto for Trumpet.”

The concert also features Haas’ original composition, “Dream.”

Tickets are $30-$52 and can be purchased by calling Walton Arts Center’s box office at 479-443-5600 or by visiting sonamusic.org. Tickets for college students are $10 each with a valid student ID. Groups of 10 or more receive a 10 percent discount.

Prior to the concert, ticket holders are invited to attend a pre-concert conversation with Maestro Haas at 6:30 p.m.

SoNA’s season continues on Dec. 16 with A Very SoNA Christmas and Dec. 17 with The Snowman: A Family Concert, presented by SoNA and Walton Arts Center.
