Lane closures planned on College and Garland avenues

Drivers in Fayetteville should expect lane closures on two major streets beginning this week.

City crews are scheduled to work on the medians on College and Garland avenues from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 15. Northbound and southbound inside lanes adjacent to the medians will be closed.

The two medians were selected for a maintenance pilot project last year comparing native plants and milkweed to turf grass. The approach for the College Avenue medians proved more successful than the Garland Avenue medians due to previous maintenance, topsoil quality and using gallon-sized plants instead of seeds, according to a news release.

Staff from the Transportation Department will continue to work with the city’s Urban Forestry Division on the Garland Avenue medians to minimize weeds while establishing healthy natives, the release stated.
