Local bands plan Tom Petty tribute Nov. 25

Legendary songwriter Tom Petty passed away last month, and several local musicians are planning to come together to celebrate his music in Fayetteville.

Local DIY record label Let’s Talk Figures has organized a tribute to Tom Petty on Saturday, Nov. 25 at George’s Majestic Lounge.

William Krzeszinski from the label is working to organize the show. The group did a similar benefit after David Bowie died last year when he and several bands came together to perform Ziggy Stardust in its entirety. This time, they decided to include more bands playing more songs from Petty’s extensive catalog of hits.

“When ol’ Tom Petty went his own little piece of LA in the sky, we decided rather than do an album, let’s just play all the hits and a few cool album cuts as well,” Krzeszinski said. “It’s just a great opportunity to get all of our talented friends together and have fun playing a bunch of cool music that folks would like to see as much as we would. We hope we’re making Tom proud.”

The lineup includes locals from a host of local bands, including Youth Pastor, Moonsong, The Jackson Jennings 5, High Lonesome, Sad Palomino, Goldfish Waterslide, Open Fields, S H Y T V V N S and Rocket Coma.

Tickets to the show are $10, on sale now at George’s ticketing site.
