Man killed in Fayetteville shooting

A 25-year-old Sherwood man was arrested early Monday in connection with first-degree murder after an altercation near Dickson Street on New Year’s Eve.

According to a police report, a patrol officer was flagged down and advised of a disturbance in the parking lot of 548 W. Dickson Street. When officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest. The man was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Witnesses said the suspect was speaking with a woman in the parking lot, and when the victim walked up to check on her the suspect pulled a gun from his pocket, pointed it at the victim and then put the gun away.

Witnesses said the two men began to fight and when the victim fell to the ground, the suspect pulled out his gun and fired one shot into the victim’s chest before fleeing the scene. He was later found and arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
