Mountain bike park coming to The Jones Center in Springdale

The Jones Center

A new place to test out your sweet mountain biking skills is coming to Northwest Arkansas soon.

The Jones Trust this week announced plans to construct a new 2.75-acre mountain bike skills park on the campus of The Jones Center in Springdale, thanks to a $1.1 million grant awarded by the Walton Family Foundation. The new park will be located across Emma Avenue from the Springdale Municipal Airport, and will be (appropriately) called “The Runway.”

“With the growing interest in mountain biking and cycling in NWA, “The Runway” will become the premier place for families to learn the skills required to enjoy the beautiful trails in the NWA Wilderness,” said Ed Clifford, Jones Trust CEO. “The venue will be world-class and become another addition to the recreation amenities already offered at The Jones Center.”

The park, to be designed by Ozark Off Road Cyclists and Crafton Tull & Associates with feedback from several area cycling groups, will include three skill development lines, pump tracks, a balance bike course, a kids bicycle playground, and a pavilion.

According to a plan documents, the park will include aeronautic-themed riding features such as a fabricated A-star helicopter and a 32-foot-long P-51 Mustang with several lines leading to each feature.

No groundbreaking date on the project has been announced to date, but we’ll keep you posted.
