Group hopes to collect 500 coats and blankets for those in need

A newly formed local group hopes to collect 500 coats and 500 blankets for those in need this winter season.

Operation: Warm NWA is currently hosting a clothing drive to collect clean, gently worn coats and blankets, along with any hats, gloves and socks that could help keep someone warm.

Donations can be dropped off at Apple Blossom Brewing Company, 1550 Zion Road; Mockingbird Kitchen, 1466 N. College Ave.; and Behrents Endodontic Specialists, 152 E. Appleby Road. Alternatively, contact Operation: Warm NWA on Facebook page to arrange a free pick-up.

According to a news release, Operation: Warm NWA is a newly founded private foundation that works to provide free, warm items to any person in need and raises awareness of the vital need for warm items in our community. Operation Warm: NWA collects, launders, repairs and distributes donated items across the area based on the specific needs of the recipient organization. Donations to date have benefitted 7hills Homeless Center, Peace at Home Family Shelter, The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter, House of Hope Rescue Mission and Samaritan Community Centers.
