Since we started the Flyer, no artist has appeared on our live music calendar more often than local guitarist/vocalist, Darren Ray.

As a solo artist playing on a summertime patio, or in one of his many bands like The Uncrowned Kings, Big Uns, Big Bad Bubba, The Darren Ray Band, and many others, Darren has paid his dues as a working musician several times over on the live music stages of Fayetteville.

Recently, however, Darren has been battling cancer, which has affected his ability to make a living as a musician, and several of his friends are coming together to raise some funds to help out.

A host of local musicians will perform at an event titled “With a Little Help From His Friends: A Benefit for Darren Ray” on Sunday, Feb. 11 at George’s Majestic Lounge.

The event will include music by Earl & Them, Travis Kid, Honeyjack, The Nace Brothers, Oreo Blue, nighTTrain, 90lb Wrench, Brave Soul, Leah & The Mojo Doctors, Rackensack, and others.

Local musician Joe Giles will emcee the event, and a silent auction is also planned.

Donations will be accepted at the door, and a GoFundMe page has also been established for online donations.

All the proceeds from the event will go toward helping with Darren’s medical bills, and to help replace income lost as he continues to battle cancer.

The event will begin at 3 p.m., and last until 10 p.m. For more info, email sboudreaux(at)arkansas(dot)net.
