February is Black History Month, and a new event associated with the celebration will debut in Fayetteville this year.

The first ever Black History Month Parade is set for Saturday, Feb. 24 in downtown Fayetteville.

The parade will begin at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m., before making its way down Dickson Street downtown.

Black History Month is organized as part of the Month of Compassion, an effort led by Compassion Fayetteville through the Fayetteville Forward Economic Accountability Council’s (FFEAC) Inclusion Group.

Several other events are also scheduled from now through the end of February, including a lecture titled The Revolutionary Act of Transmitting Our Stories at Giffels Auditorium on campus on Feb. 22, a Black History Showcase at Ozark Montessori School on Feb. 24, a Black Author’s Book Fair at ALLPS School of Innovation on Feb. 26, and others.
