‘Period Party’ supply drive for 7Hills set for Sunday

What began as a unique way to celebrate a birthday has turned into a large public supply drive for local homeless women.

The second annual ‘Period Party’ drive to collect feminine supplies for 7Hills Homeless Shelter is set for Sunday, Feb. 18 at Maxine’s Tap Room.

The event began last year as a birthday party last year for local woman, Alisa Williams. Williams asked her friends to bring a donation of maxi pads, tampons, Midol, or other feminine supplies for the shelter in lieu of gifts. The results were overwhelming, and at the end of the party, she and her friends had collected over $5,000 in supplies.

This year, the event is open to the public, with hopes to collect even more donations.

From the Facebook event:

Here’s how it works:

Everyone over 21 years of age is welcome!

You wear red.

Bring one or all of the following:

  • A box of pads or liners (wings or not)
  • Travel packs of wet wipes (soft packaging only, thanks!)
  • Box of tampons
  • Midol or Pamprin (full bottle or mini travel packs)
  • Mini hand sanitizer bottles
  • Women’s underwear (sizes 5, 6, 7 & 8 are most needed)

We’d suggest picking up bulk boxes at Sam’s Club or extra supplies during your regular shopping trip. No box is too small.

Please don’t bring Depends or Poise. Our shelter is stocked up, thanks to our party last year!

We supply the ziplock bags, and will have a packaging station set up to make individual kits for women. We’ll stock them with supplies, chocolates, and personal notes of encouragement.

All your in-kind donations are tax-deductible. 7Hills will be on site to supply you with a receipt if needed. Monetary donations will also be accepted if you feel so inclined.

In addition, Maxine’s will be donating half of the proceeds from the bar that evening to 7Hills.

Some snacks will be provided, and the event is free to attend and open to the public.
