Drivers should be aware of new stop signs at intersections in downtown Fayetteville and near the University of Arkansas campus.

City crews this week installed new stop signs on East Avenue at the intersection of Meadow Street, just off the downtown square. One-way traffic on East Avenue was previously uninterrupted between the square and Dickson Street. The intersection now requires northbound traffic to stop, creating an all-way stop intersection.

New signs were also installed on Eastern Avenue at the intersection of Mitchell Street, just west of the University of Arkansas campus. Northbound and southbound traffic on Eastern Avenue was previously uninterrupted at the intersection, which also includes stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on Mitchell Street.

City officials recently reviewed vehicle counts, speeds and turning patterns for both of the intersections, and determined that all-way stops would improve traffic flow and increase safety, according to a news release.

New stop signs were also installed on Eastern Avenue at the intersection of Mitchell Street.
