Prairie Street will be closed between Government and Gregg avenues through July 6 while crews work to replace an old stone culvert.

The work will close the street 24 hours a day until the project is complete, according to a city news release. No thru traffic will be allowed on the Prairie Street bridge section during the construction period. Detour routes will be marked. The sidewalk bridge will remain open.

The project includes removing the deteriorated stone structure and replacing it with new precast concrete box culverts. Crews will widen the affected area to 24 feet and add curb and gutter. City officials said the old structure was recently damaged during a vehicle crash and does not allow for two-way traffic, which has created a traffic hazard.
