Friday, June 15

It may feel like the dog days of summer weather-wise, but there’s no shortage of fun to be had in and around Fayetteville this weekend if you know where to look.

Fossil Cove Brewing will celebrate the release of their summer seasonal White IPA, Whizzle, on Friday night at the brewery. In addition to the new brews, the event will include music by Stephen Pigman Music and The 1 oz. Jig.

Speaking of music, the Walton Arts Center’s annual Trail Mix concerts along the trail system will take place on Friday night along the Frisco Trail downtown. This year’s performers include The Crumbs, Melody Pond, Rozenbridge, Still on the Hill, Block Street Hot Club, and others. There will also be other fun family-friendly activities. Arkansas Game & Fish Commission’s mobile aquarium will be set up, Community Creative Center will lead an arts and crafts activity, The Spark Foundation will lead a movement exploration, and circus/performing duo the Acrobuffos will perform their outdoor street show titled Waterbombs. It’s all free. Here’s a bit more info.

Also in Artosphere news, a ribbon cutting is taking place in Fayetteville for the new Stacy Levy art installation on School Avenue, and the annual Mozart in the Museum concert is Friday night at Crystal Bridges.

Botanical Garden of the Ozarks’ annual Art in the Garden fundraiser is Friday night, feautring a curated outdoor art show featuring work by 20 artists from the local Art Ventures collective and live music by Bill Dollar & Loose Change.

Finally, there are plenty of opportunities to check out a staged reading of what could be the next big play in America at TheatreSquared’s annual New Play Festival this weekend. Read our interview with playwright Mary Kathryn Nagle here, and check out the full schedule at theatre2.org.
