The state this week unveiled the new Arkansas driver’s licenses and ID cards, which will debut this summer across the state.

The Fayetteville revenue office is scheduled to receive the new licenses and cards on July 17. The full, statewide rollout should be complete by Aug. 28.

The new design features images of the gold front doors of the State Capitol building, along with diamonds. Officials said the back includes a full image of the Capitol.

Existing licenses and cards will remain valid, but the new design can be obtained by ordering a duplicate for $10 at any revenue office or online at mydmv.arkansas.gov.

Officials said cards with a gold star on the top right corner are designated as a REAL ID in compliance with newer federal laws that in 2020 will require anyone who boards a domestic flight or enters a federal building to present a REAL ID. A list of required documents for the REAL ID designation is available online.

The font and color of the word “Arkansas” on the new card will identify the type of license as follows: Blue, non-commercial driver’s license; maroon, commercial driver’s license; green, state identification card; red, learner’s permit; and orange, intermediate license.

The department said there were 2.15 million active driver’s licenses in Arkansas last year, along with over 353,000 ID cards.
