A new 82-room hotel could be coming soon to West Fayetteville.

Morrison Shipley Engineers, Inc. this week submitted plans on behalf of their client for an Avid Hotel, a new concept by Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG).

The new facility would be five stories, 42,000 square feet on a 3.24 acre property located at 751 N. Stillwater Avenue, just off Wedington Drive (behind Planet Fitness.)

The Fayetteville hotel would be among the first examples the new concept to be built in the US. IHG, who also operates Holiday Inn, Staybridge Sweets, Candlewood Suites, and several other well-known hotel concepts around the country, announced the new brand last year, with the first of the “midscale” hotels set to open this summer in Oklahoma City. Features of the hotel include “modern exteriors with open, airy retail-inspired entries,” “complimentary breakfast and a grab-and-go marketplace,” and a new cloud-based guest reservation system that allows guests to reserve a specific room before they arrive.

A technical plat review of the development is scheduled for Aug. 1. From there, the Large Square Development request would require approval from the Fayetteville Planning Commission.
