Local musicians to play Randy Newman Tribute at Maxine’s during Roots Fest

Last year, several local musicians came together to play a tribute to artist Gillian Welch at Maxine’s Tap Room during Fayetteville Roots Festival.

This year, the real Gillian Welch happens to be on the festival lineup (kinda hard to compete with that), but another tribute show is in the works at the venue during Fayetteville Roots. This time, a handful of local musicians will pay tribute to the songwriting of Randy Newman on Sunday, Aug. 26.

The show is set for 5:30 p.m., and will include performances by local musicians Jesse Dean, Noah Richmond, Fritz Hutchison, Lee Zodrow, Martha Cardwell , Ezra Idlet and Adams Collins, Candice Houston and Adam Cox, and Candy Lee and Emily Rowland.

Each artist or duo will perform 1-2 of their favorite songs from Newman’s catalog during the show.

The show is one of several free shows scheduled at Maxine’s this year. And even though most of the Fayetteville Roots Festival shows are sold out by this point, the Maxine’s shows will be open on a first-come, first served basis.

In addition to the Newman tribute, 8/24 10 pm: Lost John will play at 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, Jamie Lou and the Hullabaloo will play at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Dana Louis and the Three Bees Knees will play a special brunch show featuring food by Cathead Biscuits on Sunday at noon.

There’s no cover, and no ticket required to any of the shows at Maxine’s.
