As fire departments across the country gear up for National Fire Prevention Week, the Fayetteville Fire Department has a family-friendly event planned for this weekend just off Dickson Street.
The department will host a fire safety fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 14 in the West Avenue parking lot across from the Walton Arts Center.

Those in attendance can see and interact with several types of fire and safety equipment and take part in some fire prevention-related activities, such as:
- Meeting firefighters
- Riding in and touring a fire truck
- Spraying a fire hose
- Riding in the bucket of a ladder truck
- Touring a smokehouse
Firefighters will be on hand to give away educational material about wildfires and other items. A limited number of free smoke detectors will also be available.
