Weekend Flyer: True Lit Festival, Kessler Mountain Jam, MidSouth DIY Festival, and more

Friday, Nov. 2

Want to see a lot of bands from all over the country for not a lot of money? There’s a good chance to do just that on Friday and Saturday at the third annual MidSouth DIY Festival, taking place at Backspace. Here’s more info.

How about a show? TheatreSquared will be wrapping up a successful run of Skeleton Crew at Nadine Baum Studios this weekend, and locals from Trike Theatre will perform a version of the classic tale, Peter Pan, at Walton Arts Center all weekend long.

Music-wise, there’s a big red dirt show at George’s with Jason Boland & The Stragglers, and Smoke & Barrel Tavern has Count Tutu vocalist Branjae set to perform on Friday night. She played Fayetteville Roots Fest this year, and she’s pretty excellent.

Writer Marlon James will be reading from his work at Fayetteville Public Library Friday night as part of the True Lit festival happening in town this week.

Finally, Mike Anderson’s hoop Hogs will be host their final exhibition on Friday night before officially opening their season next week. The Hogs will take on Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena.

The Slaughter Pen Jam has moved to Fayetteville, been re-named the Kessler Mountain Jam, and will take place on Saturday up on Kessler Mountain. The event will feature Mountain bike racing, live music, and more. Here’s more info.

On Saturday afternoon, you can drink some beer and help raise money to save a longtime city park. Fossil Cove Brewing is hosting a Save Lewis Park Benefit beginning at 5 p.m. The event will include music, food, games, and of course, plenty of beer. Here’s a bit more info.

In comedy, you could check out some improv at Stage 18 with Phunbags Comedy Improv, or you could here some local story tellers make you laugh at the That’s What She Said Show at Sunrise Guitars.

Do whatever you want. This is America.
