Fayetteville Public Library to offer ‘food for fees’ program this month

Fayetteville Public Library patrons will have a chance to to erase or reduce late fees by donating food this month.

Library officials today announced plans to renew their annual “food for fees” program to allow locals to donate canned goods or other non-perishable food items in exchange for forgiveness of their library late fees.

The program runs Nov. 12-18, and will benefit the Cooperative Emergency Outreach, an organization that provides emergency assistance to residents in parts of Washington County.

During the drive, patrons get $1 credit for each can or box of food donated during the drive. The program does not cover replacement fees for lost or damaged materials.

Items needed include: peanut butter, canned tuna fish or chicken, beans, canned soup or fruit, and ceral.
