Weekend Flyer: James McMurtry, Oz Cross, Hayes Carll, Art Night Out, and more

A new art show opens at Art Ventures on Friday night. Painter Barry Thomas and photographer Craig Underwood will debut new work focusing on images from the natural world at Art Ventures from 6-8 p.m. Also on exhibit in November is Elemental, featuring the works of oil painter Amy Eichler, public artist Brandon Bullette, watercolor artist Gary Johnson and mixed media artist Denice Nicholson. Trike Theatre will continue their run of Peter Pan at Walton Arts Center, with a handful of performances scheduled for this weekend. Here’s more info.

Texas songwriter James McMurtry is in town for a performance at George’s Friday night as well. Tickets are $20-22, on sale here.

A nationally-recognized Cycle Cross event will debut in Fayetteville this weekend, at a brand-new venue. The event, called Oz Cross, will take place beginning Saturday morning at 8 a.m. on the new Millsaps Mountain area in Fayetteville, located just off MLK Jr. Boulevard. Cyclecross sounds fun. Music-wise, 90s tribute band the Mixtapes will perform at George’s Saturday night, and DJ E-Yo will be hosting his monthly party called RFRSH at Smoke & Barrel Tavern.

Up in Bentonville, there’s an Art Night Out event at Crystal Bridges Saturday night. The event will include ballet performances, artist interactions, a DJ and dancing, makerspace with screenprinting and beaded keychains, an Indigenous fashion show, and more. Tickets are just $10. Here’s more.
