A new musical based on Rick Riordan’s New York Times best-selling novel The Lightning Thief will debut right here in Fayetteville this week.

The national tour of the brand new show will begin its run at Walton Arts Center, with three shows set for Friday and Saturday Jan. 4-5.

Cast, crew, management, and production teams for the show have been in town for the past week working on sets, and performing technical rehearsals for the upcoming tour, tweaking and perfecting scenery, lighting, audio, rigging, special effects, props, and costumes.

The show tells the story of a boy who discovers that his absent father is the Greek god Poseidon, and that he has super powers himself, and is being called a “clever, hip, and irreverent rock musical that merges teenage angst with greek mythology.”

The touring version will feature four members of the original cast, including Chris McCarrell as Percy Jackson, Kristen Stokes as Annabeth, James Hayden Rodriguez as Luke and others, and Sarah Beth Pfeifer as Clarice.

Tickets start at $25 plus fees, and can be purchased by visiting the Walton Arts Center box office, by calling 479-443-5600, or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.
