One of the most popular parking lots in the entertainment district will get a full surface replacement this week.

Parking lot 55, located on West Avenue just north of Dickson Street (near Hammontree’s and the Legacy Building), will be closed through Friday, Jan. 11 while crews perform a milling and asphalt overlay project.

The lot has undergone several repairs over the years, but now needs a full surface replacement, according to city officials.

The city currently manages 11 public parking lots located in the Downtown Square and Dickson Street districts. The lots periodically require general maintenance such as crack seal, seal coat, restriping, patching, and bumper block replacements. However, the lots sometimes need a complete asphalt overlay to prevent further deterioration.

Recent improvements to the lot include LED light installations and a low-impact development (LID) permeable paver installation.

Additional parking remains available at other city-managed lots, including the West Avenue Parking Lot (southwest corner of West Avenue and Dickson Street), the Spring Street Parking Deck, and the West Avenue Annex Parking Lot (north of Watson Street, for UA use during day, but open to the public on nights and weekends).
