A group of local kids have organized a fundraiser to purchase sleeping bags to distribute to the homeless in our community this month.

The event, called Youthfest 2019, is set for Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Guisinger Building (1 E. Mountain) in Downtown Fayetteville. It will feature live music by local folk band Smokey & The Mirror, along with pizza by Wood Stone Craft Pizza, donuts from Rick’s, raffles, a marshmallow dodgeball competition, and more.

You read that right. Marshmallow dodgeball.

The organizers of the event is called the 7 Hills Youth Council, and is made of local kids 4-13 who have made it their mission to help battle homelessness in Fayetteville and the surrounding area. The group set up a stand at the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market over the summer, where they were able to raise more than $5,500 for their cause last year.

The kids have organized the event themselves, including securing raffle items from a host of area businesses, including Wasabi, Lucky Luke’s, the Dickson Street Bookshop, Local Lime, and several others.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $8, and are onsale now online.
