For the ninth straight year, a local bank is working to combat food insecurity in and around Fayetteville with an ambitious food drive.

Arvest Bank locations in NWA and the Fort Smith/River Valley region have have pledged to provide one million meals to locals in need again this year as part of their two-month long 1 Million Meals initiative.

The bank will challenge their employees, customers, and members of the community to participate in a drive to collect non perishable food items and monetary donations at all of their locations in NWA and the River Valley through June 1.

Community members can participate in Million Meals by dropping off nonperishable food items or making monetary donations at any of the Arvest branches, or calling (866) 952-9523 or using the Arvest Go mobile app. Every dollar raised through Million Meals provides the equivalent of five meals for those in need.

The challenge take place in the spring once again this year in a row due to and increased need for food items in the summer when children who depend on school lunches will be out for the season. Donations also tend to be lower this time of year, organizers say.

A list of 29 partnering food organizations is here.
