Volunteers are needed for an Earth Day celebration this weekend that includes a cleanup event in several areas along Fayetteville’s trails and streams.

The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20 at the Marion Orton Recycling Center, located at 735 North Street. Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided.

Mayor Lioneld Jordan will begin the event with an Earth Day proclamation. After that, volunteers will be issued supplies, given a clean-up location, and instructions on what to do. Supplies will include drinking water, recycling and trash bags, gloves, and litter grabbers.

T-shirts and other giveaways will be handed out as volunteers arrive back at the center after the cleanup.

To sign up for the event, call Kristina Jones at 479-444-3467 or [email protected].

In the spirit of Earth Day, the city has encouraged participants to walk, bike or carpool to the event, which is located on the Fayetteville trail system. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes.
