Spring is here, and the local symphony orchestra is ready to celebrate the season with a new concert next month.

SoNA will perform a show entitled “The Rite of Spring” to cap their 2018-19 season at Walton Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

SoNA will perform Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas’ Sensemayá; Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring (which caused a riot when first performed in 1913); and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, featuring guest soloist and “rising star of the cello,” Edgar Moreau.

“For our grand finale performance, we’ll raise the roof with Revueltas’ musical riot, Sensemayá, and then feature dazzling French cellist Edgar Moreau in Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic and lyrical Variations on a Rococo Theme,” said SoNA Music Director Paul Haas. “Finally, it’s the piece that changed classical music forever in 1913: Stravinsky’s music for the scandalous ballet The Rite of Spring.”

Before the show, Maestro Haas will host a creative conversation about the show in the concert hall beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets to the event are $32-$55. To purchase, visit the Walton Arts Center Box Office, call 479-443-5600, or visit waltonartscenter.org.
