UPDATED: Police investigate homicide in south Fayetteville

UPDATE: Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect at about 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Police are investigating a homicide that took place Sunday night in south Fayetteville.

According to department officials, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 234 S. Willow Ave. at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28.

Once on the scene, officers found a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was taken to a local medical facility where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the suspect fled the scene before they arrived, but that detectives are currently investigating what they called an isolated incident.

This is the second fatal shooting in the city this year. There was one fatal shooting in Fayetteville in 2018.
