New event celebrating illustration, print, and pop culture coming to Fayetteville

A new event celebrating ‘illustration, print, and pop’ culture will debut in Fayetteville this summer.

The event, titled Death-Ray, is the brainchild of Cattywampus Co-op indie craft show creator and local artist, Chad Maupin. It will take place on Saturday, June 29 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fayetteville.

Maupin said that he expects to show work from more than three dozen illustrations for Northwest Arkansas and around the region, including Marvel Comics’ Aaron Kuder and John Lucas, along with indie artists Michael Sweater and Benji Nate.

The event will also include panel discussions, a retro video game arcade by Arcadia Retrocade, an escape room by Escape Room 13, a board game area, and a live All Star Dungeons and Dragons game.

Live panels at the event will be hosted by the hosts of the podcast “Look What I Did” and feature topics such as “The Art of Storytelling” and the “Business of Art” as well as a Q&A with artist John Lucas.

In addition, there will be live printing demonstrations, computer animation tutorials, portfolio reviews and a Make Your Own Comic area for kids.

Early bird tickets to the event are on sale through the month of May for $10 (they’ll go up to $15 in June). A $45 ticket is also available that includes a t-shirt and swag bag.
