Construction to close roads around UA campus this summer

Two major construction projects will require closing a few roads and intersections around the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville this summer.

The work is scheduled to begin this week now that most students are out of class and less vehicles are on the roads.

A road widening project will close Razorback Road to thru traffic from Meadow Street to Cleveland Street through early August.

During the work, Maple Street will be closed from Razorback Road to Stadium Drive. The intersection of Maple and Razorback will also be closed.

Local traffic will be allowed to travel between Meadow Street and Markham Street to access campus parking Lots 72, 73 and 73a on the west side of Razorback Road. Local traffic may also access the road between Cardwell Lane and Cleveland Street.

Those who need to access Lot 44 must use the east side entrance from Stadium Drive.

Thru traffic on Razorback Road will be temporarily routed east from Meadow Street to Stadium Drive where a temporary 3-way stop will be set up.

Other closures include Thomas Avenue west of Razorback Road, which will limit access to Lot 73 through mid-July.

Beginning in early July, the parking area in front of the university Administration Building will be removed and a new sidewalk will be installed. During this time, Maple Street will be temporarily closed between Razorback Road and Garland Avenue.

A project to extend Leroy Pond Drive is also underway near Bud Walton Arena.

The work includes extending Leroy Pond Drive east across Razorback Road, where it will curve north to connect to Graham Avenue.

The project requires a temporary closure of Lot 46, and a permanent closure of Nettleship Street.

The extension work is expected to last through mid-August.
