Highway 71 Pastry Tour bike ride is scheduled for Sunday, May 26 in Fayetteville.

The event (formerly called the Highway 71 Classic) is hosted by Breakaway Cycling, and features multiple road bike routes catering to all levels of riders and raises money for Breakaway’s programming that aims to get more kids and women on bikes.

Ride options include three fully-supported routes which each head south from Walker Park along scenic Highway 71 and then back to Fayetteville. The ride include rest stops stocked with pastries from local bakeries, including Little Bread Co., Dirty Apron Bakehouse, and Stone Mill Bread. Rockin Bakery and Jammin Java will provide a bread-n-spread and coffee bar at the starting line before the ride begins.

All finishers will receive custom designed awards.

Finish line events planned include beer samples from Apple Blossom Brewing and a recovery boot station from Speed Hound Endurance. Other businesses and organizations will be in attendance for various activities.

The routes

The 20-mile beginner’s route goes to West Fork and back. Designed for new riders looking to participate in their first group ride event, it’s a mostly flat route with about 650 feet of elevation gain (see route map).

The 32-mile route is also mostly flat with only about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. The out-and-back route takes riders to Brentwood Park on the White River (see route map).

The classic 71-mile ride features some of the most scenic views in the region, including a climb and descent of Mount Gaylor in both directions. The ride passes by Artist Point on the way to the turnaround and aid station in Mountainburg (see route map).

Registration

Early registration is available online at BikeReg.com for $40, and on the morning of the ride for $50 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Walker Park.

Riders will depart from the park at 9 a.m.
