A local Juneteenth celebration is planned on the University of Arkansas Campus this month.

The event, organized by the University of Arkansas’ African American Resource Group and the Juneteenth Celebration Committee, is set for 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at The Gardens on the University of Arkansas Campus.

Juneteenth is a commemoration of the anniversary of African American emancipation, and celebrates African American freedom and achievement and encourages continuous self-development and respect for all cultures.

The afternoon will include live music by Arkansas Gospel Chorale, Afrique Aya Drum Company, Brandi Hamilton and DJ Ty Walker.

In addition, there will be a cookout, ice cream, games for families, inflatables, a basketball shoot-out, football toss, and other activities.

Several local vendors and businesses will also be on hand, and the NWA Community Clinic will hold a health fair featuring free medical and dental screenings, and answering general medical questions.
