Our neighbors in the river valley in and around Fort Smith are experiencing catastrophic flooding right now, and a local organization is hosting a donation drive to help out.

Walton Arts Center this week announced they have teamed up with the United Way of Fort Smith to raise funds and collect supplies for those that have been displaced by the rising flood waters.

Through Thursday, June 6, you can drop off donations of non-perishable food items, bottled water, heavy-duty trash bags (33-34 gallon), paper towels, toilet paper, safety glasses and work gloves or rubber cleaning gloves at Walton Arts Center or Walmart AMP from 10 a.m until 7 p.m.

In Fayetteville, donations will be received backstage at the WAC. Those who’d like to donate can enter the parking lot from Spring Street, drop off their items, and exit to West Avenue.

In Rogers, donation will be accepted in the parking lot in front of the Walmart AMP box office.

Those who donate at either location can get two free tickets to Bella Gaia, a show coming to Walton Arts Center on June 13.

You can also purchase a $10 tickets to the Bella Gaia show, and the entire ticket price to the show will be donated to the United Way of Fort Smith.

“Bella Gaia was already planned to be the 10th anniversary celebration of Artosphere, Arkansas’ Arts + Nature Festival,” said Peter B. Lane, president and CEO of Walton Arts Center. “Now we will also celebrate the generosity of our community by turning this performance into a community fundraiser.”

You can also donate directly to the United Way’s flood relief efforts by texting flood2019 (all one word) to 91999.
