TheatreSquared fans who were curious about the company’s new home in downtown Fayetteville recently got a peek at the progress through a photo tour provided by the Fayetteville Flyer in mid-July.

Now it’s time to focus on two upcoming milestones – the Aug. 8 opening of The Commons, the café/coffeeshop/bar/hangout on the first floor of the new facility, and the Aug. 14 premiere of “Shakespeare in Love,” the company’s first show in the new space.

The acclaimed new adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film features a cast of 18, and is the largest show T2 has ever attempted.

“The first show in the new facility had a high bar to clear,” said T2 artistic director Robert Ford. “Shakespeare in Love is a love letter to live theatre — joyfully written with hilarity, romance, and swashbuckling adventure.”

About the play:

Shakespeare in Love is a comedy about the greatest love story almost never told. Wildly funny and full of mischief and romance, this new adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film arrives fresh from its critically acclaimed debut in London’s West End. Young Will Shakespeare has writer’s block and fears he’ll never finish Romeo & Ethel, the Pirate’s Daughter — until he meets Viola. Against a bustling backdrop of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, their forbidden romance inspires a masterpiece.

Co-directed by T2 Associate Artistic Director Amy Herzberg and Southern Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Aimée Hayes, “Shakespeare in Love” will be on stage Aug. 14 through Sept. 8. Tickets are now on sale from $17-$54 at 479-777-7477 or theatre2.org.
