Free tree giveaway set for Saturday, Oct. 26 in Fayetteville

It’s time for the annual tree giveaway in downtown Fayetteville.

Free trees and shrubs will be available for Fayetteville residents on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the 21st annual Celebration of Trees event on the Arvest Bank plaza across from the north side of the downtown square at the Spring Street Parking Deck on the corner of Spring Street and School Avenue.

The event begins at 7 a.m. when Mayor Lioneld Jordan, along with staff from the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department and members of the Urban Forestry Advisory Board, will hand out up to two plants per resident.

Species available this year include (click each for info) Arrowwood viburnum, Bald cypress, Black gum, Button bush, Fothergilla, Paw Paw, Persimmon, Swamp chestnut oak, White oak and Willow oak.

Trees and shrubs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of two plants per adult Fayetteville resident that is present at the event.
