Local studio shooting civil war feature film ‘Freedom’s Path’ in Fayetteville

Another feature film is now in production in and around Fayetteville this month.

According to a press release issued last week, local company Rockhill Studios is shooting a film titled Freedom’s Path in the region during the months of Oct. and Nov.

The film stars Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), RJ Cyler (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl) and Gerran Howell (Catch 22), and tells the story of “the friendship forged between a Union soldier and runaway slave William who is helping facilitate the Underground Railroad,” according to a Deadline article from earlier this month.

From the synopsis:

Freedom Path is a movie about an everlasting bond, forged between two lives world’s apart, set against the backdrop of the nation’s darkest hour, the American Civil War.

The film will be the first time in the directors chair for writer-director Brett Smith, and is being produced by Seattle-based studios Rocket Soul Studios and 1812 Films.

Producers are Neko Sparks, Jim Pidgeon and AJ Winslow. Executive producersinclude Skip Williamson (Underworld), Kerri Elder (To The Stars), Dexter Braff (Galveston), and Steven Michael Swadling.

The cast also includes Harrison Gilbertson (Picnic At Hanging Rock), Afemo Omiliami (Poms) as Ellis Freeman, Carol Sutton (Poms), Thomas J Byrd (Chi-Raq), and Jermaine Rivers (The Gifted).

According to the press release, Rockhill will once again utilize production crew based in the area. The company was also involved in the film that filmed in Fayetteville over the summer.
