Free Cat Friday returns to Fayetteville animal shelter on Nov. 8

Anyone considering adopting a cat should head to the Fayetteville animal shelter on Nov. 8 for the eighth annual Free Cat Friday promotion.

The event, which aims to empty out some cages at the shelter, offers residents a chance to bring home a new pet with no adoption fees. All available cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, prior to going to their new homes.

Justine Lentz, the city’s animal services superintendent said fall can be a slow time of year for adoptions, and space is very limited right now.

Lentz said there are over 30 cats and kittens available. Shelter staff are encouraging people to fill out adoption applications in advance so the applications can be approved before the event. Applications can be downloaded at fayetteville-ar.gov/adoptapet or picked up at the shelter, located at 1640 S. Armstrong Ave. from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
