A funeral service and procession are planned to honor fallen police officer Stephen Carr on Thursday, Dec. 12 in Fayetteville.

Carr, 27, was killed Saturday night inside his patrol vehicle behind the police station.

Police Chief Mike Reynolds said Carr was waiting for his partner before beginning a night shift when he was approached by a suspect and shot “point blank.” Reynolds identified the suspect as London T. Phillips, 35, of Fayetteville. Phillips was later shot and killed by responding officers after being chased into an alley next to the station.

Carr’s funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 12 inside Bud Walton Arena. A procession of officers plans to escort Carr’s body from North Crossover Road to the arena beginning at 11 a.m.

Residents are encouraged to line the streets along the route (see below) in support of Carr and his family.

Those attending the funeral may park in Lot 56 at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Razorback Road. Designated seating areas for the public will me marked inside the arena. The south and west entrances to the arena will be open to the public. Attendees should expect a bag check and metal detectors at the entrances. The department is encouraging people to leave purses and bags at home if possible, for convenience and ease of entry.

In addition, a memorial fund for Carr’s family was established via GoFundMe.
