Fayetteville police this week released a letter from Chief Mike Reynolds thanking residents for their overwhelming support following the death of officer Stephen Carr.
Carr, 27, was killed Dec. 7 after a gunman shot him 10 times in the head while he was sitting in his patrol vehicle behind the police station.
“On behalf of the men and women of the Fayetteville Police Department, please accept our sincere appreciation for the outpouring of love, compassion, prayers, food and acts of random kindness everyone has provided to us since last Saturday’s tragic event,” wrote Reynolds.
He called the ambush and killing of Carr “the worst thing the Fayetteville Police Department has ever experienced.”
