Walton Arts Center will be collecting new and gently used children’s books for kids in need at two shows coming up this weekend.

The WAC has partnered with NWA Books for Kids for a holiday book drive during the performances of two shows based on well-loved children’s books; The Snowman: A Family Concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, and The Polar Express, set for 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23.

Collection boxes for drop off of the books will be located in the Walker Atrium during both shows.

The Snowman: A Family Concert is the annual holiday show for families by local symphony orchestra, SoNA. The orchestra will perform a live score to accompany the film, based on Raymon Briggs’ children’s book of the same name.

The WAC will be showing the film version of The Polar Express, the 1985 book written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg, on Monday. Attendees of the show are encouraged to wear their best holiday pajamas, and enjoy free hot chocolate during the show. Old Santa himself will be in attendance, and will be available for photos that evening.

Northwest Arkansas Books for Kids is an organization that provides books to children in need in order to encourage every child to learn to read and read to learn. All books donated during the drive this weekend will be re-distributed by NWA Books for Kids to nonprofit organizations throughout the area.

Tickets for each event are $10 plus applicable fees and can be purchased in-person at the Walton Arts Center and Walmart AMP box offices, by calling 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.
