Weekend Flyer: Frost Fest, SoNA, The Royale, Razorback Invitational, and more

With January lasting three months this year instead of just 31 days, I think we could all use a happy hour right now. That’s where George’s comes in. This week, they’ve got locals The Juice and Jenna & The Soulshakers.

Want to see some of the best college athletes in the world race, and throw things, and jump over stuff? Me too. The Razorback Invitational is happening this weekend at the Randall Tyson Track Center on campus. Here’s more.

Later on at George’s Led Zeppelin will perform. Kinda. OK, it’s a tribute band. See if you can tell the difference.

Also in Rock, Tulsa-based musician Mike Hosty is in town for a show at Smoke & Barrel. He’s been freaking people out for years in Fayetteville.

For dancing, your best bet is Axis Lounge, where they have a four-act bill of electronic acts including Whiskers, Jynxx, Foxx, and Trippy Hippy.

TheatreSquared’s new show The Royale, based on the life of boxer Jack Johnson, is playing at their new theatre off Dickson Street. It’s been getting rave reviews.

There’s more below. Go for it.

Frost Fest / Courtesy

Local children’s theatre, Trike Theatre will perform a new show titled A Year with Frog and Toad at Nadine Baum Studios this weekend. There are a couple chances to see it.

Also on Saturday, you can check out Symphony of Northwest Arkansas who will be performing their Masterworks II concert on Saturday night at Walton Arts Center. The show will focus on music by Carmina Burana, and will include performances by SoNA Singers, U of A Children’s Choir, Bentonville High School Chamber Singers, and special guest soloists. Here’s ticket info.

Also in tunes, there’s another electronic show at George’s featuring Dalton Richmond, Kadela, and Crezzent, and Nomad’s has a three-band bill with locals Moonsong along with Guitar Jar and Olympics.

If you’re thirsty, you can try like 100 beers at the annual Frost Fest organized by local brewery Fossil Cove. We spoke with organizers yesterday, who said there are still some tickets available. Get them online here.

There’s more below. Have a great weekend, Mike.
