A limited number of garden plots will soon be available for rent through the city’s Community Gardens in the Parks program.

Registration for gardeners not currently participating in the program is from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 7 at the Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center, located at 945 S. College Ave. Plots will be issued on a first come, first served basis.

The program offers residents an opportunity to rent a garden plot for an annual fee in hopes of providing individuals and families a place to grow fresh produce, learn about gardening, and meet new people in the community.

Plots are available at the Walker Park Community Garden adjacent to the Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center and at the Jefferson Community Garden by the Fayetteville Adult Education Center, 612 S. College Ave.

Plot fees are $20 for a 30- to 50-square-foot bed, or $40 for a 90- to 100-square-foot bed. The garden season lasts from March through February, and the plot fee includes water and a limited amount of seeds and tools.
