Wilson Park pool will stay closed for the 2020 season

The Wilson Park pool will not open for the 2020 season.

As Fayetteville’s only public swimming pool, the facility is normally open daily, with times designated each week for open swim, family swim, and adult lap swimming. The pool also offers annual swim lessons and includes a swim team.

Parks officials announced the news on Tuesday, along with the cancellation of this year’s Gulley Park Concert Series.

Connie Edmonston, the city’s director of parks and recreation, said although the two programs are staples of the community, it’s not possible to continue forward while also ensuring the safety of residents.

“Unfortunately, much of what makes these programs successful is the community gathering and socialization that is currently not possible because of COVID-19 concerns,” said Edmonston. “Our first priority is to safeguard the health of our community.”
