Fayetteville seeks nine volunteers for boards and committees

Fayetteville officials are looking to fill nine positions on eight of the city’s boards, commissions and committees.

The list of vacancies includes volunteer seats on the City Board of Health, Environmental Action Committee, Historic District Commission and more.

All volunteers must be registered voters who reside within the Fayetteville city limits. Those who are not Fayetteville registered voters will need to provide proof of residency. All applicants must submit a new application for each board, commission or committee.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Applications may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the Office of the City Clerk at 113 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville, AR 72701.

Airport Board (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired University of Arkansas member term ending 12/31/21

Description: The purpose of this board is to seek both general and technical citizen input and assistance in airport functions, provide and encourage visionary planning and strong leadership for the airport, and assist the City Council in matters pertaining to the operation, improvement, extension, and maintenance of the Airport and other related facilities, property and easements.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held at 2 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Fayetteville Executive Airport Conference Room.


City Board of Health (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 12/31/25

Description: The City Board of Health makes recommendations about rules and regulations regarding contagious, malignant, and infectious diseases.
Meetings: Meetings are held every two weeks as needed.


Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 03/31/24

Description: The purpose of this board is to hear and to act upon appeals regarding decisions made by the building inspector/superintendent. The board also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development. In addition, the board hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the standard building codes. Information regarding this board can also be found in the standard building code.
Meetings: The Board does not meet on a regular basis, as the requests forwarded to this Board are infrequent. Members are telephoned a week in advance of the meeting.


Environmental Action Committee (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One Community Citizen at Large unexpired term ending 06/30/22

Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council.
Meetings: Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in City Hall.


Historic District Commission (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 06/30/21

Description: This commission recommends the establishment of historic districts to the City Council. Its basic function is to promote the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public through the preservation and the protection of buildings, sites, places and districts of historic interest.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the second Thursday every other month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.


PEG Advisory Board (2 openings)

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 06/30/21
– One unexpired term ending 06/30/22

Description: This board advises the City Council on issues related to public access, educational, and government (PEG) television use in the City of Fayetteville.
Meetings: Meets at least once every quarter at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.


Public Facilities Board (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One term ending 12/31/25

Description: The Public Facilities Board is authorized to issue revenue bonds to finance residential housing, health care, and related facilities to persons of low or moderate income and for the elderly.
Meetings: Scheduled as needed.


Town and Gown Advisory Committee (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One Community Citizen at Large term ending 09/30/22 (representing Ward 1, 2 or 4)

Description: This committee advises the City Council and University of Arkansas on mutually relevant issues including campus expansions, on- and off-campus student housing, and parking and noise issues in areas near the campus.
Meetings: The Committee meets the third Monday every other month at 3 p.m. at the AT&T Conference Room, Genesis Technology Incubator, 700 Research Center Blvd., Fayetteville, AR 72701.
