Sad news for west Fayetteville folks.

Penguin Ed’s Barbecue closed its Wedington Drive location over the weekend.

Officials announced the closure last week on the company’s Facebook page:

The hardest and saddest thing we’ve had to do since we began 27 years ago: today, we’re announcing that we’re strengthening our Company by closing our Wedington location. This is the last weekend you can visit our Wedington Dr location, this location will close on Monday Aug 3.

A HUGE thank you to the loyal customers and employees who have supported us over the years. Another HUGE thank you in advance for visiting our other two locations. We’ve been around for decades and we’re determined to thrive through this. Thank you is not enough.

It’s not all bad news for fans of the restaurant, however. Penguin Ed’s still operates locations at 2773 E. Mission Blvd. and at its B&B location at 230 S. East Ave. in Fayetteville. The Mission Boulevard location is currently open for curbside and delivery orders only, and the B&B location is open for dining on the patio along with curbside, delivery, and takeout options.

The Wedington Drive Penguin Ed’s location officially closed on Sunday, Aug. 2.
