Case update: Arkansas coronavirus cases increase by 729

The number of known positive COVID-19 cases in Arkansas reached 54,216 on Wednesday, which is an increase of 729 since Tuesday.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced the numbers during his coronavirus press briefing held Wednesday in Little Rock.

Testing was up over Tuesday, with 6,025 new tests announced Wednesday, bringing the total number of tests conducted in the state this month to 108,581.

Hospitalizations were up seven to 499, and there were 12 additional deaths, brining the toll to 631 since the pandemic began. The number of Arkansans currently on ventilators due to the illness is 112, down seven from yesterday.

Of the new cases announced on Wednesday, 76 came from correctional facilities, and 653 are considered to be active in the community.

The new cases today bring the total of active cases in the state to 5,919, up from 5,898 yesterday, with 47,666 cases considered recovered.

The top counties for new cases on Wednesday were Pulaski with 65, Jefferson with 56, Sebastian with 52, Craighead with 33, and Washington with 32.
