Case update: COVID-19 hospitalizations reach 935, cases increase by 2,061 Friday

The number of new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Arkansas increased by 2,061 on Friday, marking the second straight 2000+ case day to end the week.

The state announced 2,238 new cases on Thursday.

Of the new cases added today, 295 are located in Benton (133) and Washington (162) counties.

Hospitalizations in the state increased by 36, bringing the total number of Arkansans hospitalized to a record 935. There are 152 Arkansans on ventilators, up 6 from Thursday. There are currently 98 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 in NWA hospitals, according to the NWA Council’s daily update, with 34 patients in NWA on ventilators.

Deaths on Friday increased by 24, bringing the toll in Arkansas to 2,321.

There are currently 17,360 cases of COVID-19 considered active in the state, which includes those that have tested positive by both PCR and antigen testing methods. The new cases announced today brings the total number of active cases in Benton and Washington County to 2,476.

The state reported 15,095 new PCR tests on Friday, along with 3,383 new antigen tests.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in Arkansas since the pandemic began to 141,916.

The top counties for new cases announced Friday were Pulaski (209), Washington (162), Benton (133), Craighead (107), and White (90).
