Case update: Arkansas COVID-19 cases increase by 2,827 Friday


The state reported another record setting day of new coronavirus cases Friday, eclipsing the previous high number of new cases set just one day earlier.

The number of new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Arkansas increased by 2,827 on Friday after Thursday’s number of new cases hit 2,789, according to the Arkansas Department of Health’s daily update.

Of the new cases added today, 260 are from Washington County and 228 come from Benton County.

Hospitalizations decreased by 31 on Friday to 1,041.

There are 191 Arkansans on ventilators, up one from Thursday.

Deaths on Friday increased by 31, bringing the toll in Arkansas to 2,586.

There are currently a record 18,032 cases of COVID-19 considered active in the state, which includes those that have tested positive by both PCR and antigen testing methods.

The state reported 13,451 new PCR tests on Friday, along with 2,701 new antigen tests.

The new cases bring the total cumulative count in Arkansas to 167,137 since the pandemic began.

The top counties for new cases announced Friday were Washington (260), Benton (228), Pulaski (210), Craighead (146), and Saline (117).
