Case update: State announces record 58 deaths from COVID-19 Wednesday


The state announced a record 58 deaths as a result of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the highest number added in a single day since the pandemic began.

The number of new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Arkansas increased by 2,306 on Wednesday.

Of the new cases added today, 159 are from Washington County and 153 come from Benton County.

Hospitalizations increased by 9 on Wednesday to 1,079.

There are 184 Arkansans on ventilators, down six from Tuesday.

The 58 deaths announced on Wednesday bring the toll in the state to 3,074 since the pandemic began.

There are currently 20,774 cases of COVID-19 considered active in the state, which includes those that have tested positive by both PCR and antigen testing methods.

The state reported 8,885 new PCR tests on Wednesday, along with 4,696 new antigen tests.

The new cases bring the total cumulative count in Arkansas to 191,504 since the pandemic began.

The top counties for new cases announced Wednesday were Pulaski (242), Washington (159), Benton (153), Craighead (110), and Faulkner (103).
