The number of coronavirus cases in the state of Arkansas have increased from 12 to 16, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced on Sunday.

Two of the new cases were reported by a commercial lab and came from Garland County, according to Dr. Nate Smith.

The other two new cases were associated with the original case at in Pine Bluff.

March 15, 2020, 2 p.m. - Arkansas school schools to close Tuesday

Schools across the state of Arkansas will be closed beginning on Tuesday, March 17, Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson announced in a news conference Sunday.

Districts may also elect to close on Monday, March 16 if they are prepared to do so, Hutchinson said. Fayetteville Public Schools haven't made an announcement yet on their decision for Monday.

March 12, 2020, 3 p.m. - UA suspends in-person classes for remainder of semester

All in-person classes at the University of Arkansas will shift to online or other delivery methods beginning Monday, March 16.

“While no members of the university community have been diagnosed with COVID-19, we continue to prepare for that potential while working to complete the current academic semester,” UA Chancellor Joe Steinmetz wrote in a message sent to the campus community.

The school earlier announced that instructors should simply be prepared for the online shift no later than March 30.

Steinmetz said the campus will not close, and that school operations will continue.

SEC officials on Wednesday announced that all on-campus sports events will be played with no fans in attendance until at least March 30.

The news came after the NCAA announced it would not allow fans at the upcoming men’s and women’s NCAA Tournament events, as well as the NIT.

The rule applies to all sports on SEC campuses, as well as the in-progress SEC men’s basketball tournament, which began Wednesday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

The first presumptive positive case of coronavirus was reported Wednesday in Arkansas.

The patient is isolated at a hospital in Pine Bluff, according to Gov. Asa Hutchinson. It is believed that the person contracted the virus while traveling outside the state but within the country.

The NWA Fashion Week spring events have been canceled.

The events were scheduled for mid-April, but will now be added to the fall season, set for Oct. 23-24 at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.
