Reminder: Spring bulky waste cleanups are underway in Fayetteville

The first of four spring bulky waste cleanup events was last weekend in Fayetteville, but there are still three more opportunities to get rid of items that are too large to fit into a trash bin.

The remaining events are scheduled for April 10, April 17 and April 24 at three different locations around town.

Residents are asked to bring a copy of a recent water bill to verify Fayetteville residency.

There are limitations on what can be accepted at the cleanups.

Items allowed: Furniture, such as couches, chairs and mattresses; large appliances, such as refrigerators, stoves, lawn mowers, hot water heaters, washers and dryers; and renovation materials, such as carpet, padding, vinyl flooring, drywall and paneling (limited amounts only, no contractors allowed).

Items not allowed: Household garbage, commercial garbage, and yard waste, such as limbs, brush, leaves and grass.

Yard waste is available for drop-off at the city’s Compost Facility at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on the second Saturday of the month from April to October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

E-Waste is being accepted at the Happy Hollow location during each of the clean ups. Acceptable items include computers, printers, copiers, phones, stereos, televisions, fax machines, electronic cable, paper shredders, microwaves, DVD & VCR players, video game consoles, satellite receivers and hand held devices like iPods, etc.

Household hazardous waste will be accepted on April 10 at the Happy Hollow location. This includes fluorescent light bulbs, cooking and automotive oil, aerosols, pesticides and fertilizers, cleaners, oil-based paint, mercury items, etc.
